Silent volcano

A report by Enzo Calquín

A girl's life gets affected by a volcanic eruption. The eruption erased many houses which were built with effort and work of several families, including the one of a young girl who just bought a new house with a huge loan. A lifetime going to trash while the lava burnt all the houses nearby. 

First of all, I wanted to know what happened to this little girl. Her answer was shocking. Her house, her car and everything that she had, was burned by the lava. She was alive, scared and exhausted by this incident. She could contact her family and they were in good conditions. They were going to a shelter thanks to the rescue team who had managed to save them in time. When I asked her about the rescue team, I knew that her situation in that moment was quite hopeless.

Can you tell me what happened?

My house was completely burned by the lava. I saw my neighbours running so I started to run too, that’s what saved me. So here I am, alive but scared. I lost everything, my new house, my car!

How are you right now? Do you know if your family is fine?

Actually, I'm fine but a little exhausted. All happened too fast! My family is OK. I could not communicate very well with them but, they texted me and they are in good condition. They wrote me they were going to a shelter with the rescue team who had picked them up in their house.

The mother in The umbrella man was a very distrustful and suspicious woman. She represents a very cold person but, in the end, she has a good heart once she feels confident and trusts again. She is middle aged. Tall. British. Determined.

The daughter is totally opposite to her mother. Mainly, she is very trusting. She is kind with strangers, maybe even naive. Also she seems curious once she feels a little suspicious about something, in this case, about the old man. She is tall as her mother. British.

Poor old man, and my mother took absolute advantage of him. What was she thinking? It was just a pound. At least we are not getting wetter here in the rain thanks to this silk umbrella. “Mum, are we getting a taxi now?” My mother stood there, looking at me, not saying a word for a long period of time. She must have been thinking really hard. At last, she opened her lips, “maybe we should do something different today? Don’t you think so?”

My mother was acting strangely. Something different? She loved routine and hated the unexpected. ‘No surprises!’ she always says. Going to a cafe was something we always did after a medical appointment. It was like a treat for us. “Mustn't we get home, mum?”
